Connors, Rumpf & Gove “Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs” Initiative Clears Final Legislative Hurdle

The State Senate has passed legislation (S-178/A-638) sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove that would establish a “Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs” (HOFNOD) program within the Division of Fish and Wildlife to encourage children to avoid drug use.

The 9th District Legislators’ initiative has passed both Houses of the Legislature and, subsequently, will be sent to the Governor’s desk.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Bill to Prohibit Permanent Changes in Custody Arrangements for Deployed Military Personnel Advances

The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced legislation (S-1051) sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove that concerns custody arrangements for military personnel.

The 9th District Legislators’ legislation would provide that the court, whenever making a determination concerning child custody or parenting time, would not consider the absence or potential absence of a servicemember parent by reason of deployment with the U.S. Military as a factor in determining the best interest of the child.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Receive Confirmation from Turnpike Authority: No Tolls at Galloway GSP Interchanges 41 & 44

9th District Delegation Also Receives Response on Service Area – Jimmie Leeds Road Access Concerns

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove received a formal response from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority that no toll plazas will be established at Garden State Parkway Interchanges 41 or 44 as part of the interchange improvement plans.

The 9th District Legislators had written the Authority after heightened concerns were raised among local residents after Governor Christie was asked during his recent town hall meeting held in Galloway, if there would toll plazas at either interchange. Connors, Rumpf and Gove, who attended the town hall meeting, worked jointly with Atlantic County Freeholder Alex Marino and Galloway Mayor Don Purdy to obtain a formal response from the Turnpike Authority on the toll matter in order to address constituents’ concerns.

Senate Committee Advances 9th District Delegation Government Efficiency Measures

The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee has passed three legislative initiatives introduced by 9th District Legislative Representatives Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove aimed at removing statutory impediments that will allow local governments to operate more efficiently.

The first measure, S-195, would expand the power of a municipality to cancel a delinquent charge or fee owed to the municipality, provided the amount of the fee is less than $10. The 9th District Legislators introduced the legislation to alleviate unnecessary burdens placed on municipalities, especially those with small workforces, when required to procure diminutive debts which, in most cases, are not worth the time and costs involved. The bill is permissive, meaning that it would allow municipalities the option not to pursue the diminutive charge or fee from a delinquent ratepayer.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Hail Action on Jessica Lunsford Act

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove today hailed the passage of the Jessica Lunsford Act (S-380/S-642) by the Senate Law & Public Safety Committee. Connors, Rumpf and Gove are co-sponsors of the legislation which is named for Jessica Lunsford, the Florida girl who was sexually assaulted and murdered by a sex offender, and is modeled on legislation which was enacted by the State of Florida.

In mid-March, the 9th District Delegation started an online petition drive through their legislative website calling for legislative action to be taken on the Jessica Lunsford Act and other sex offender legislation.

Senate Passes Connors, Rumph & Gove Supported Bill to Protect Privacy Rights of Accident Victims & Their Families

The State Senate has passed legislation sponsored by 9th District Legislators Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove that would prevent first responders from photographing persons whom they are assisting or disclosing photographs of such persons without their consent.

Senator Connors is the prime sponsor of the legislation (S-199) in the Senate, while Assemblyman Rumpf and Assemblywoman Gove have joined as cosponsors on the companion bill (A-789).

9th District Legislators Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove want to advise interested residents that a hearing of New Jersey Veterans’ Hospital Task Force will be held at the Little Egg Harbor Municipal Building on Tuesday, May 29 at 10:00 am.

Senator Connors and Assemblywoman Gove, both of whom serve on the Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committees of their respective House, will serve as legislative members on the Task Force.

Gove met with Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim and other officials of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority as part of the ongoing discussions on the prospect of building a commuter lot off of Garden State Parkway Exit 58.

Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly, Little Egg Harbor Mayor John Kehm, Jr. and Deputy Mayor Ray Gormley, as well as a representative of the Governor’s Office also participated in the meeting.

9th District Delegation Urges Turnpike Authority to Address Residents’ Concerns on Jimmie Leeds Rd. Access

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove, representing the 9th Legislative District, issued a letter to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) on the tremendous concern among Galloway residents regarding access from Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway Township to the commuter service area located at Garden State Parkway Interchange 41.

The 9th District Legislators recently met with residents of the Four Seasons Community in Smithville during which several objections were raised about access from Jimmie Leeds Road. At their “meet your legislators” event held at the Galloway municipal building in late February of this year, the Delegation spoke with residents about the pressing need for South Jersey to have a stronger voice on the Turnpike Authority Board after similar complaints were raised on how this interchange project will negatively impact the access from Jimmie Leeds Road.

DOT Updates 9th District Delegation and Local Mayors on Route 72-Manahawkin Bay Bridges Project

Representatives from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) provided an update on the Route 72-Manahawkin Bay Bridges Project to Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove and local mayors at a meeting held in Stafford Township. The meeting was held at the request of the 9th District Legislative Delegation.

Local officials in attendance were Surf City Mayor Leonard T. Connors, Jr., Barnegat Light Mayor Kirk Larson, Harvey Cedars Mayor Jonathan Oldham, Ship Bottom Mayor William Huelsenbeck and Stafford Mayor John Spodofora.
