The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee has passed three legislative initiatives introduced by 9th District Legislative Representatives Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove aimed at removing statutory impediments that will allow local governments to operate more efficiently.

The first measure, S-195, would expand the power of a municipality to cancel a delinquent charge or fee owed to the municipality, provided the amount of the fee is less than $10. The 9th District Legislators introduced the legislation to alleviate unnecessary burdens placed on municipalities, especially those with small workforces, when required to procure diminutive debts which, in most cases, are not worth the time and costs involved. The bill is permissive, meaning that it would allow municipalities the option not to pursue the diminutive charge or fee from a delinquent ratepayer.
