As vehement opponents of sanctuary state policies, Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove are continuing their effort to defeat legislation that would allow persons in the country illegally to obtain a New Jersey driver’s license.

9th District Delegation Testifies Against Common Interest Community Bill S-2425

Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove (both R-9) testified against common interest community legislation (S-2425) during a hearing of the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee.

The 9th District assemblypersons told the members of the committee that petitions with more than 9,000 signatures of residents opposed to the legislation had been submitted for entry into the official record of testimony. The legislators urged the committee to respect the will of the people by holding S-2425 from any further consideration by the Legislature.

Legislation introduced by Senator Christopher Connors and co-sponsored by Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove which would grant priority course registration to military service members and veterans attending public institutions of higher education was approved by the Senate Higher Education Committee.

Connors, Rumpf & Gove Support Initiative to Expand Eligibility for Veterans’ Property Tax Deduction

Acting on their continuing commitment to expand benefits for veterans in the state, Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove are backing legislation to extend the $250 veterans’ property tax deduction to veterans who did not serve in time of war or emergency. Currently, only honorable discharged military veterans who served during war or other emergency are eligible for the veterans’ property tax benefits.

The measure, ACR-57, sponsored by Assembly Military and Veterans Committee Chairperson Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-28), would propose an amending the State Constitution to expand eligibility for the veterans’ property tax deduction.  Voters would have to approve the amendment as a ballot question posed during a general election.

“Veterans in this state deserve better.  Too many veterans who call New Jersey home served honorably are denied benefits by an overly restrictive State law that bases eligibility largely on specific active duty periods,” remarked the delegation.

Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove are calling for public hearings on their legislation which would create the new offense of theft by financial exploitation of a vulnerable person.

Under their legislation, S-923 and A-701, the new offense would be committed when a person in a position of trust in relation to a senior citizen or a person with a disability commits a theft offense against that person. Crimes of financial exploitation against a senior or disabled person would be one degree greater than the most serious underlying theft offense.

Call for Governor Murphy and Assembly Speaker Coughlin to Let the Bill Die in Committee

In forcefully representing the interests of their senior constituents, Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove have called on Governor Phil Murphy and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin to refrain from supporting or advancing bill S-2425, which concerns common interest communities, including those that are age restricted.
